Birding Tours

  • Birding tours are $5 per person for non-members, $3 for members
  • No reservation necessary
  • Times may vary due to season, please call to confirm
    • Every 2nd Tuesday morning of the month at 8:00 am
    • Every 2nd Sunday morning of the month at 8:00 am
    • Every 3rd Sunday morning of the month at 8:00 am
    • Every 4th Saturday morning of the month at 8:00 am

Docent Training
Docent training is an 8-week course that will be held Saturdays. Each session lasts three hours. Training includes the history of Mitchell Lake, bird and plant identification, wildlife management, nature center procedures, and educational nature interpretation.

The cost to participate is $35.00 and includes training and materials. Please call (210) 628-1639 for more information and to find out when our next class will be scheduled.

Saturday, March 6, 2010 9:00 am to noon

Members of the Bexar County Master Gardeners, educational outreach for Texas AgriLIFE Extension, will be at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center on March 6, 2010 from 9:00 AM to Noon to answer your questions about gardening "Black Gold".

Program fee: $5 for non-members; Free for members

TogetherGreen Community Gardening Day
Saturday, April 3, 2010 9 am to noon

Every spring we work to get MLAC Native Plant Gardens ready for the growing season. You can help us with garden tasks including pruning and mulching. Learn about these great native and drought tolerant plants and how to use your new skills in your home landscape.
No experience necessary, this project is funded through Toyota’s TogetherGreen program

Free Family Program: Kids Birding 101
Saturday, April 3, 2010 9 am to 11 am

Great program for kids to learn about bird identification and habitat. We'll learn how to use binoculars and take a hike to see which winter residents we can identify!
